Eve's Musings #3

Eve's Musings #3

So this is not a Monday Musing (I missed Monday – again!)
Just Eve’s Musings.
Anyway, I’ve been thinking a lot about ageing lately.
Not in a how do we stop it? kind of way. More in a… why are we so bloody terrified of it?
A while ago, at Yandina Markets, a customer picked up our Nectar and commented on the wording we were using around ageing on the label. Nothing dramatic. Just one of those little comments that sticks with you.
And she was right. So, we changed it. (Side note - that same customer now regularly buys our Nectar).
Words matter.
I’m an English teacher (for the next little while anyway), so I probably should believe that. But I also think words are a little bit like spells. The things we say about ourselves, our bodies, our skin, getting older. We hear them. We repeat them. And after a while we start to believe them.
So maybe it’s time we were a bit more careful with the language we use about ageing.
Because I don’t want The Eve Collective to be another skincare brand telling women that getting older is a problem they need to fix.
Wrinkles aren’t a failure. They are there to tell our stories. It is our proof we have lived, laughed, worried, loved and still kept going.
Our skin hasn’t failed us because it has become drier, thinner, more sensitive, less plump or just… different. Our skin changes because we change. Hormones change. Oil production changes. Collagen changes. Life changes.
Maybe the goal doesn’t need to be desperately trying to look 25 forever. Maybe it’s just looking after the skin we have now.
Because man, I did NOT look after mine when I was younger!
Last weekend I was chatting with a customer at Caloundra Street Markets about what we used to do as teenagers. Wag school. Go to the beach. Lather ourselves in suntan oil and literally BAKE ourselves in the sun.
Life on the Sunshine Coast. Lucky, hey?
Except apparently my chest kept the receipts. Now, in my early 50s, the sun damage is very much there. Would I love to go back and tell teenage Tammy to put some bloody sunscreen on and cover up?
Absolutely.
Can I?
Nope.
So I look after the skin I have now.
And that brings me to my latest obsession.
Sea buckthorn.
I started researching this little bright orange berry a while ago and, as it tends to happen with my busy brain, went completely down the rabbit hole.
Sea buckthorn oil is naturally rich in fatty acids, carotenoids and antioxidants, and I became particularly interested in it for dry, mature and changing skin.
And the colour.
Ohhhh the colour.
It is this incredible, sunshiny orange – oh so glowy.
Blend it with our grass-fed tallow and you get the most beautiful golden balm.
So, after a bit of experimenting, we have two new products joining Eve.
RESTORE - Sea Buckthorn Tallow
Just our grass-fed tallow and sea buckthorn seed oil.
Simple. Golden. Beautiful.
Rich enough to deeply nourish your skin, but still lovely for daytime, especially as we head into the warmer months.
RESTORE - Sea Buckthorn Serum
Pure sea buckthorn seed oil.
That’s it.
One ingredient.
Use a few drops on its own or add a drop or two to your tallow when your skin feels like it needs a little extra.
And because these two fit so beautifully with a couple of our existing favourites, I’ve put them together into something new.
THE AGELESS RITUAL
RESTORE Sea Buckthorn Tallow.
RESTORE Sea Buckthorn Serum.
REWIND Botanical Resin Eye Balm.
NECTAR Premium tallow Blend
A really simple AM + PM ritual for looking after skin as it changes.
In the morning, RESTORE Tallow with a drop or two of RESTORE Serum if you want it. At night, our richer, oil-packed NECTAR with REWIND around the eyes.
That’s it. No 14-step routine. No ‘reverse the signs of ageing’. No declaring war on your wrinkles. And no pretending we can somehow freeze ourselves in time.
Just really beautiful ingredients chosen to nourish the skin we have now.
I think The Ageless Ritual says exactly what I want it to say.
Not anti-ageing.
Not age-defying.
Ageless.
Because getting older is not something we need to apologise for.
And looking after your skin was never supposed to have an expiry date.
